Step 1 – Preparation

Guide d’entretien de ses chaussures en 6 étapes

This consists of putting in place all the elements we will need to take care of our shoes: put shoetrees in the shoes, remove the laces, and take out all the care products we will need (cleaning wax, shoe polish, brushes).

Step 2 – Scraping

Le décrottoir

The leather must be cleaned and the accumulated dirt (wax residue, dust) removed to free the pores of the leather. To do this, brush the leather with a scraper brush and wipe it with a slightly damp sponge. Allow to dry.

Step 3 – Cleaning

Le nettoyage

With the help of a cleansing cream or a leather renovator. It is advisable to rub all the leather parts of the shoe (upper, welt, and leather sole edge) to remove the old shoe polish. Let it rest for a moment.

Step 4 – Waxing the welt

Le cirage de la trépointe

As the welt is difficult to access, the use of a small brush is ideal. A colourless wax can be used to preserve the colour of the welt threads. Go around the entire shoe.

Step 5 – Waxing the upper

Le cirage de la tige

Apply polish (from a metal can) or creme (in a glass jar) with a cotton cloth, making small circles with your fingers in order to let the wax penetrate into the pores of the leather. Apply to the entire surface of the shoe upper and leave to rest for 1 hour.

Step 6 – Polishing

Le lustrage

To shine and remove excess shoe polish, brush the shoe with a soft brush. Put the laces back on. We can finish the step with a glaze.
