Iconic Derby, handcrafted in the workshops of the Richard-Pontvert company in Saint Jean de Moirans.
La Michael, the iconic Paraboot derby
Both robust and elegant, the Michael was born in a particular context, that of the post-war years, when the essential thing was to design objects capable of standing the test of time. It is the answer to this need, combining authenticity, craftsmanship and solidity.
This iconic derby seduces with its unmistakable silhouette. Crafted from exceptional leathers, it features simple yet assertive lines, with a thick rubber sole for comfort and durability.
It is manufactured using Norwegian stitching, an ancestral know-how that ensures optimum waterproofing while allowing repair and resealing. This technical choice testifies to Paraboot’s determination to offer a long-lasting, durable shoe.
More than just a shoe model, the Michael has become an emblem over the decades. Adopted by fashion lovers and everyday workers alike, it has stood the test of time without ever losing its authenticity. Its timeless design and quality craftsmanship make it a living legacy of Paraboot.
Maintain & repair to last
From the outset, the Michael has been designed to last. Designed with noble, robust materials, it is part of a responsible approach before its time: that of repairability.
For over 80 years, Paraboot has defended this simple but essential conviction: a beautiful shoe is not made to be thrown away, but to be worn for a long time, repaired and passed on.
This commitment is reflected in preserved craftsmanship and technical choices that facilitate repair. Thanks to Norwegian stitching, each pair can be resoled several times, considerably extending its lifespan.
Care also plays a key role in this longevity. Smooth leather, grained leather or nubuck: each material deserves special attention.
Paraboot offers advice and products designed to nourish, protect and restore shine to leathers.
Regular cleaning, brushing, waxing, creams and waterproofing: these simple gestures, carried out over time, ensure that your shoes retain their suppleness and natural patina.
Discover the steps involved in repairing a Michael
Each step is carried out by skilled shoemakers trained in traditional Paraboot techniques.
It all starts with a precise diagnosis of the shoe. The craftsmen examine the wear of the sole, the condition of the stitching and the strength of the leather. Once the needs have been identified, the repair process can begin.
Tear off the sole
The worn sole is carefully removed, while respecting the integrity of the upper. This is a delicate stage, as the aim is to avoid damaging the components in good condition, so that they can be preserved: insert, welt, mounting plate or mounting wall.
Disassemble the shoe
If the state of wear is significant, the shoe must then be disassembled to repair and replace all worn or damaged parts. If wear is severe, it is possible to keep only the upper and replace the entire sole, i.e. the welt and insole (with its wall).
Fitting the welt
Here, it’s a matter of starting to reassemble the shoe with the new welt. For the Michael, the Norwegian seam is sewn.
Installing the new footing
This is an important step, restoring your shoes to their original appearance with Paraboot’s historic rubber soles, manufactured in our workshops for almost 100 years.
Pampering the shoe
Finally, finishing and pampering give your pair of Michael’s a second life. In some cases, specific touch-ups can be carried out to correct areas that have been particularly marked by time, such as an inner lining that is too worn or has holes.
The leather is cleaned and nourished to restore its suppleness and shine, and even its exceptional patina!
Thus repaired, the Michael regains its youthfulness and can accompany its owner for many years to come. This cycle of maintenance and repair embodies Paraboot’s philosophy of designing footwear that lasts through the seasons and generations.
